New hope for high-risk child leukemia
October 12, 2009 at 2:48 pm

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Oct 12, 2009 (UPI via COMTEX) -- A new therapy is doubling survival rates for high-risk childhood Philadelphia chromosome-positive acute lymphoblastic leukemia, Canadian researchers said. The Phase 2 trial, published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology, involved nearly 20 North American centers with a total of 92 patients ages 1-21. October 12, 2009 at 6:58 am

SACRAMENTO, Oct 12, 2009 (UPI via COMTEX) -- Hand washing and cough covering are important in avoiding the flu but some foods also help fight flu, a U.S. dietitian advises. "It's important to eat a variety of healthy foods from all food groups throughout the year, but it's particularly significant during flu season," Andrea Garen, a registered dietitian says in a statement. "Adding flu-fighting foods like yogurt, garlic, citrus and chicken to your diet can boost your body's immune system and help you to avoid getting sick." Yogurt and other cultured milk products contain probiotics, beneficial bacteria with immune-boosting benefits.
