| Poring over facts about milk: cow's, goat's, soy, almond, rice and hemp October 19, 2009 at 3:00 am |
| Some are richer in protein, others in essential fatty acids. There are pros and cons to all.
Full-fat, low-fat or skim? Used to be, there weren't many choices to make over what to pour on your cereal. But the number of alternatives to cow's milk -- soy, goat's, hemp milk, more -- has steadily grown.

| Looking to achieve balance? Try slacklining October 19, 2009 at 3:00 am |
| Proponents call the sport, in which participants maneuver across a flat strip of nylon just a few feet above the ground, a good core exercise and a stress-reliever -- like tai chi on a tightrope.
Standing on a swaying length of flat nylon slung like a tightrope, my knees shake as I try desperately not to fall. But every time I take a tentative step, I lose my balance. Fortunately for me, this isn't a circus act performed several stories up; I'm slacklining -- and the ground is a mere 12 inches away.

| Teeth grinders get some help October 19, 2009 at 3:00 am |
| Store-bought guards for teeth gnashing can help, but fitted ones from dentists are best.
Sure, snorers can be loud. But for really cringe-worthy nighttime noise, it's hard to beat a dedicated grinder. | Electric bikes are all green (colors vary) October 19, 2009 at 3:00 am |
| "Ride up steep hills without huffing and puffing!" "Hammer at 20 mph without breaking a sweat!" At the recent Interbike trade show in Las Vegas, an explosion of companies touted the Lance Armstrong-like powers of the electric bike -- a pedal-powered bike with an electric motor for extra speed when you need it. Although E-bikes haven't caught on in the United States as they have in Europe and Japan, makers say high gas prices, the obesity crisis, better lithium-ion rechargeable batteries and a wave of green consciousness make them right for the times.

| This is a safe and effective way to strengthen the muscles in your back that run parallel to your spine. Start with just a small range of motion and make sure your feet are touching the floor. This will help isolate and train those underworked areas of your back.
